TROUBLE IN CUP

CHRISTCHURCH, -©ot "3i: • An inquiry was held breaking of Nyallo Scott and ißtferference to other competitors just atfe the start of the New Zealand Tracing Cup at Addington on Saturday/ After receiving an assurance from Mr J. R. McKenzie that he would scratch Nyallo Scott from all events the horse was nominated for/ the remainder of the meeting, and a .further assurance that Nyallo Scott woyjcf not again be started until a satisfa(jtory trial had been given before the .Stipendiary stewards, no further action W3s taken The chief stipendiary steward lodged a protest against the first placing of Jackie Guy, driven by G. S. Smith, in the Empire Handicap on the grounds of alleged interference to Checkmate, resulting in R. Donald, driver of Checkmate, and D. McGregor, driver of Trusty Scott, being thrown out of their sulkies. The inquiry was adjourned until the evidence of R. Donald, who was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital, could be obtained. Donald was reported to have suffered head injuries. His condition on Sunday was stated to be satisfactory. An inquiry was held into an accident in which G. S. Smith, driver of Mountrnellick, was thrown from his sulky in the Victoria Handicap. The horses concerned were Bay Machine and Mountmellick. It was found that Bay Machine. driven by S. G. Leggett, tangled and interfered with Mountmelick. It was decided to reprimand Leggett for the way in which he handled his horse.
