Revolutionary military units in Peru, headed by General Manuel Odria, haVe seized the key southern city of Adequipa. A Government statement in Lima said that “ necessary measures have been taken ” to quell the revolt, but General Odria, broadcasting over Adequipa radio, declared that he had formed a provisional Government, which controlled the southern half of the country. General Odria is an exCabinet Minister and the hero of Peru’s war against Ecuador in 1940. The rebel broadcast said the revolt was a protest against the Government’s handling of the uprising of October 3, which the Government, after crushing, said was led by the Left Wing Party.
