Soviet Press Opens First “Black List” of German Warmongers

Rec. 11 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 29. The Russian-controlled press announces that a “ black list ” of “ warmongers” has been started and that the first 12 names already appear on it, including Herr Jakob Kaiser, leader of the Christian Democrats, Dr Friedensburg, acting Lord Mayor of Berlin, and several newspaper editors. The Tagliche Rundschau, the Russian military administration’s organ, says: “For the first time in Germany’s history the inciters to a new war have been individually named and personally arraigned. The day will come when they will be put on trial.” “ Warmonger ” is defined as anyone who criticises conditions in the Soviet Union or raises doubts about the “ high purposes of its policy.” In Stuttgart, United States and German police fixed bayonets and used tear gas when between 3000 and 4000 demonstrators marched down Stuttgart’s main street smashing shop windows after a meeting of protest against the policies of the German Economic Council. The demonstrators threw broken bottles, knives and stones at the police, one of whom was injured. Two American soldiers received knife wounds. The police arrested about 100 persons. Over 45,000 Germans attended the protest meeting.

While the Berlin blockade continued Britain was not prepared to enter into any discussion on the withdrawal of the occupation forces from Germany, says a British Foreign Office spokesman.

He was commenting on remarks by the British Military Governor, General Sir Brian Robertson, suggesting that the conclusion of the peace treaty and the withdrawal of Allied forces from Germany would be the best solution of the German problem.

In Berlin the German welfare authorities announced that arrangements had been completed for nearly doubling the rate for evacuating children from Berlin to 700 a week. The children are being flown in British aircraft to Western Germany to spare them the hardships of a blockade winter.
