OTAGO BRANCH Major GofTm, Salvation Army, and Mr H. H. Johnson. Methodist Church, were welcomed as new members at the meeting of the Otago branch of the National Council of Churches by the chairman, Mr E R. Vickery. At the request of the Returned Services’ Association, the Rev. L. B. Neale was asked to act as padre at the Cenotaph service on Remembrance Sunday, November 7. A donation was received from the Hard of Hearing League as an expression of appreciation for the monthly Sunday afternoon services arranged by the council and conducted by ministers of various denominations for several years. The Otago branch of the United Nations Association wrote asking that special prayers and pulpit references be included in the services next Sunday, which is United Nations Day. and the anniversary of the ratification of the United Nations Charter. A report from Mr J. Heatherington stated that the Dunedin Home and Family Week expenses had been met and a balance of approximately £5 was in hand. It was also stated that the similar “ week" in New Plymouth had been an outstanding success. The Rev. R. S. Watson advised that as a result of the initial action of the branch council, a Marriage Guidance Council had been set up, with a representative committee composed of members with special competence in some aspect of marriage relationships. The Rev. A. Reid Harper gave details of the coming visit of Dr G. McLeod, of lona community. An interdenominational youth leaders' meeting would be held after church services on November 4, and the following day meetings for ministers and a public showing of films would be held.

Mr E. R. Vickery was appointed acting secretary during the secretary's absence in America. The Rev. R. S. Watson conveyed the thanks of the branch to Principal A. L. Haddon for his work as secretary since the inception, and good wishes in connection with his lecture tour in the United States.
