Removal of Butter Rationing Would Be Bad Blow to Britain
P.A. AUCKLAND, Oct. 18. “ The suggestion that we should remove butter rationing is one of the worst things possible for the United Kingdom,” said the Minister of Finance, Mr Nash, addressing the Auckland Manufacturers’ Association to-night. “ If we removed butter rationing, Britain, on the present evidence, would have to reduce her 3oz ration to 210 z,” the Minister continued. “ There is nothing that Britain dreads more than the possibility that New Zealand might go off butter rationing.” Mr Nash said that if New’ Zealand stopped butter rationing, Britain would get 14,000 tons less butter, and if Australia followed suit this would mean 40,000 tons less for Britain. No one would suggest that while we had 6oz a week we should cause Britain to go to less than 3oz.
