“Our Tuapeka correspondent informs us of the discharge of the man who was brought down from Marlborough on suspicion of being the murderer of ‘Yorky,’ of Miller’s Flat. The final examination of the accused was held on Wednesday at Tuapeka. Henry Ashley, a salesman in the employ of Mr Miller, of Miller's Flat, and James Campbell both failed to recognise the accused man as the one who was seen in suspicious circumstances after the murder. Ashley swore that the prisoner was not the man, and Campbell seemed to have no knowledge whatever of him. The magistrate, in ordering the discharge of the prisoner, said there was not the slightest stain on his character.” ,

A Waitahuna correspondent of the Daily Times writes:—“Mining operations are now being carried on with great vigour and generally with success, most of the miners making good wages, and in some instances being on a fair road for a fortune. One case is that of O’Hara’s party, the owners of the long water-race, who have just had a washing-up on Richmond Hill, the result for five weeks’ work being 80oz. Part of the time was employed in cutting a tail-race and opening out the claim.”
