SOUTHLAND TRADES COUNCIL’S DECISION

P.A. INVERCARGILL, Oct. 17. After discussing the question of compulsory military training, the Southland Trades Council has decided to approve a direction by the. National Council of the Federation of Labour and defer further consideration until after the return of the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, to New Zealand. An amendment, moved by Mr A. Wilson, of the Freezing Workers’ Union, and seconded by Mr C. Ladbrook, of the Bluff Waterside Workers’ Union; that the Trades Council should ask for an immediate conference of the federation, was defeated by 17 votes to 5.
