EARLY END TO STRIKES EXPECTED
Rec. 11 p.m. PARIS, Oct. 17. The French Government has reopened talks with the Communist and non-Communist labour unions in an effort to end the coal strike. This is the first direct contact between the Government and .the unions for more than a week. The results of the talks are unknown, but the delegates appear hopeful of an early end to the strikes, which have already cost France 2,000,000 tons of coal.
