SIR LAURENCE HOISTED ON BOARD

P.A. WELLINGTON. Oct. 16. Sir Laurence Olivier’s last glimpse of New Zealand was from a sling 30 feet above the Wellington wharf when he was hoisted on board the Corinthic half an hour before the ship sailed for London to-day. Because of an operation this week to remove a cartilage which he damaged during a performance in Sydney, he was unable to walk.

Sir Laurence laughed heartily at the unusual procedure as ambulance men lifted his stretcher from a car and placed it on a canvas sling on the wharf. If was raining hard at the time, and a young girl rushed forward and held an umbrella over his head.
