LARGEST OPIUM HAUL

SEIZURE AT AUSTRALIAN PORT PACKAGE FOUND IN SHIP’S FUNNEL MELBOURNE, Oct. 14. Workmen engaged in overhauling the British India freighter Chanda, at Victoria Dock, found a suspicious bundle suspended in the funnel. Subsequently Customs officers took possession of 3501 b of opium, worth about £28,000 on the Australian black market. This is the largest opium haul yet made at an Australian port.
