NEW PRIME MINISTER
MR YOSHIDA TO FORM JAPANESE CABINET TOKIO, Oct. 14. Mr Shigeru Yoshida, 70-year-old president of the Democratic Liberal Party, was to-night elected Prime Minister of Japan. I-Ie will succeed Mr Hitoshi Ashida, Democratic leader, whose middle of the road Coalition Government collapsed when a leading Cabinet member became involved in the Showa Denko Government loan scandal. Mr Yoshida is expected to endeavour to form a Cabinet from his Right Wing Democratic Liberals, together
with some supporters from the Democratic Party. Mr Yoshida, however, has already indicated his intention to dissolve the Diet and hold a General Election. Cabinet, if formed in time, will preside only over the current emergency session of the Diet The principal legislation to be enacted in this session is the controversial National Public Service Law drafted at the instruction of General MacArthur to prohibit strikes and collective bargaining among Government
