Britain Seeks More Apples

P.A. HASTINGS, Oct. 15. Information that the British Ministry of Food is desirous of receiving from New Zealand another 1.000,000 case of apples in the coming season, provided snipping is available, was given by Mr J. W. Watson, London representative of the Marketing Department, in an interview in Hastings to-day. General satisfaction with the fruit exported last season was expressed by Mr Watson. It had arrived, however, in a little more forward condition than they would like to see in normal times, but this state of maturity was not a disadvantage as the fruit was quickly absorbed. Though the Ministry of Food had expressed satisfaction with the fruit, it was nevertheless of the opinion that New Zealand grading standards were not as good as before the war. Mr Watson thought that one reason for this might be the combination of extra fancy and fancy grades, which gave the growers more scope.
