QUIET WEEK

DUNEDIN FRUIT MARKET

POOR CONDITION OF ORANGES A heavy supply of New Zealand poorman and sweet oranges reached the Dunedin market this week, but the occasion was one for mortification rather than appreciation, as much of the fruit was in extremely poor condition. The oranges were all . sold by auction at prices unfavourable to the growers.

Generally speaking, a quiet week was experienced. There were heavy deliveries of Sturmer, Granny Smith and Delicious apples last week-end. The Delicious were in poor condition and Ihe Granny Smiths constituted the last delivery of the season. Stumers are expected to be available for some weeks yet. Christchurch and Nelson hothouse tomatoes are now arriving in increasing quantities and prices are a little lower. Hothouse cucumbers are also more plentiful, with a consequent lowering in price. Sales of New Zealand lemons Improved during the week. Vegetables were scarce at the beginning of the week because of the Chinese anniversary celebrations.
