TOMMY GUN IN GOOD TRIAL ON SODDEN TRACK

Special to the Dally Times WELLINGTON. Oct. 14. Conditions were atrocious at Trentham this morning for the final trials for the opening day of the Wellington meeting. Steady rain fell throughout the morning and the two-year-old track, the only available track for galloping, was sodden. Tommy Gun registered the best time over half a mile and others who pleased over this distance were His Lordship, Mangatiti and Super. Robin’s Reward impressed when he shaded Sweet Nymph at the conclusion of five furlongs, and Batley, Julius Cmsar, and Signal Officer were responsible for sound efforts over longer distances. Hormuz worked well when he left a mile behind in lmin 50sec. He ran the last half mile in 54 l-ssec, and the final three furlongs in 41 3-ssec. Hormuz is the best track galloper at Trentham. Angell was travelling easily at the conclusion of six furlongs in lmin 23 4-ssec, the last three taking 44 l-ssec. She is in splendid order and is capable of a forward showing in the Shorts Handicap. The two-year-old, His Lordship, who has improved with his race at Masterton, left half a mile behind in 52sec, the final three furlongs taking 39sec. Vakura shaded Baikis and Robert Keith at the end of six furlongs in lmin 24 3-ssec, the last half-mile requiring 53 3-ssec. Rivervlew and Pierre were not required to do better than 53sec for half a mile. Both are well forward. Never travelling at top. Flying Sovereign completed six furlongs in lmin 25sec, being eased over the final half-mile. She should race well in the Desert Gold Stakes. After the breakfast interval, when the track was heavier Distinction and Renowned completed a mile in lmin 57sec, the final half-mile taking 57 4-ssec, and the three furlongs 43 l-ssec. Batley Handles Going Handling the going well, Batley completed seven furlong in lmin 32 4-ssec. the final half-mile' taking 53sec. Detain finished much better than The Grate at the conclusion of six furlongs in lmin 25 3-ssec. the final three taking 43 3-ssec. The Grate did not handle the going. Resolute was well clear of Primitive, who was eased at the conclusion of five furlongs, the last four taking 58sec and the final three 42 3-ssec. Kartikeya was under a good hold while running seven furlongs in lmin 37sec. He ran the last half-mile in 53 l-ssec. The easing of the track will improve his chance in the Wellington Handicap. Citril, who is well forward, was not troubled to run half a mile in 57 2-ssec the final three furlongs taking 43 3-ssec. Fleetwood handled the conditions well while running three furlongs in 41 4-ssec. Tire most impressive trial of the morning was performed by Super when he accounted for Frances over half a mile in 54 2-ssec. Super was always going better than his companion and ran the final three furlongs in 41 2-ssec. He was under a strong hold over the final stages and could have improved considerably on the time. Frances has shown her best form on firmer going. Signal Officer was much too good for Findon over a mile in lmin 51 4-ssec. the last half in 54 3-ssec, and the final three furlongs in 41 4-ssec. It was a splendid effort on the part of Sienal Officer but he was moving short after he pulled up
