OFFERED TO STATE
KAITANGATA AND LINTON: MINES PRODUCTION DECREASING Special to the Daily Times WELLINGTON, Aug. 17. - Both the Kaitangata and Linton coal mines had been offered to the State, said the Minister of Mines, Mr McLagan, replying to the Coal Bill second reading debate to-day. He said negotiations were under way with thd Linton Company but there was at present a difference of opinion as to value. He. was waiting and ready for further discussions on the Kaitangata mine. These mines, the Minister said, were not as good as in the past. The Linton output was progressively decreasing, ana at Kaitangata, where the present mine was almost worked out, the decline was even worse. If the Government had taken over these mines a year or two ago it would have been blapied for these declines.
