GENEROUS GIFT
£IO,OOO FOR UNIVERSITY AN ANONYMOUS DONOR Advice of an anonymous gift of £IO,OOO for the benefit of the Home Science faculty was received by the Council of the University of Otago at its monthly meeting yesterday afternoon. On the motion of Mr Carl V. Smith, who presided in the absence of the chancellor, the Very Rev. Dr D. C. Herron, it was resolved to convey to the donor the sincere thanks of the council. Other gifts received were £IOO from Mrs Park, to provide a prize in mining, £2OO from Mrs Jennie Macapdrew to provide a prize in music, and £ 100 which was raised to establish a prize in mathematics to commemorate the work of Dr R. J. T. Bell
