MUSSEL BAY
STATE HOUSING SCHEME CONTRACTORS NEARLY READY It is expected that within the next fortnight the road construction machines r.ow beihg used at Corstorphine for the Housing Construction Department will go to Mussel Bay to start work on the reads for the new State housing settlement. Two city firms have ibeen given the contracts for the 64 houses to be built at Mussel Bay. They are Residential Construction Co., Ltd., an off-shoot of Fletcher Holdings, Ltd., which is to build 30 houses, and the Love Construction Co., Ltd., which will build 34 houses.
It is understood that Residential Construction, Ltd., which is at present engaged on other work at Port Chalmers. will begin to erect the temporary buildings needed for its work at Mussel Bay within the next week, and that the other contractors will begin the prefabrication of their houses shortly. Although it is usually the policy of the Housing Construction Department to have the roads laid down before construction work begins, so as to give access to* housing sites, there is sufficient foundation at Mussel Bay at present for the builders to gain access to do some of their early work should they decide to do so.
