Promising Youngsters Were Saddled Up For Parade at Riccarton

SPORTING

The colts and geldings’ section of the parade of two-year-olds, neld at Riccarton on Saturday, was run in two divisions and the second division was won- by King’s Evidence, who got out well and was never headed. Owned by Mr J. P. O’Brien, of Dunedin, for whom Air Ace raced consistently last season, and trained at Wingatui by W. Hancock. King’s Evidence is a chestnut gelding by Lord Bobs from Evidence, by Solicitor-general from Eulalie, who was out of Eulogy, and he showed a nice turn of speed. The runner-up to King’s Evidence was Indiana, a bay colt by Tiderace from Beech Hill, by Defoe. He is in W. P. Hogan’s stable at Washdyke. A bay gelding by Royal Chief from Tissue, trained by C. G. Humphries, was third. His dam is by Paper Money from Fairwood, by Woodend from Fairform, whose progeny include Tauramai, Rin Tin Tin, and Passaform. At the finish of the first division there was nothing between Heather Flight • (Airway—Moorflower), Trinidad (Defaulter —Calypso), and Talent (Foxbridge—Starbeam), but the most impressive of the three was Talent, who appeared to be doing it very easily. Heather Flight is trained by F. D. Jones at Riccarton, Trinidad by J. S. Shaw at Riccarton and Talent by W. J. Bromby at Trentham. Taken altogether, the youngsters were a promising looking lot and the names of some of them should figure on the list of classic winners this season.
