BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Sir,—From my letter published' on August 10 it would appear that I inferred that the senior referee had given a T.K.O. decision to the boy who twice previously “shamrocked” his opponent.' A* the senior referee did not control this bout, I was not referring to him. To any student of boxing—the art of self-defence, not “brawling or fighting”—it must be obvious that this gentleman has a thorough knowledge of boxing and complete control of the contestants.—l am, etc.. Old Bill.

Sir,—l agree with all’that has been said regarding the Otago Boxing Association. While we have the present set-up in control, who know, nothing about the job they are trying to do, we must slip back. One alarming aspect of the whole business is that the New Zealand boxing .championships are to be held in Dunedin next month, and some of our boys have had only one fight, and some two, yet to date Christchurch has staged nine fights to Dunedin’s three. How can we expect our boys to do Justice to Otago and themselves? Would any person say these boys have had fair treatment from the 08-A.?—l am, etc., Old Timer.
