STEADY PROGRESS

SPORTS CAR CLUB FIRST ANNUAL MEETING Although most of the members had been relatively inexperienced when the club was formed in July, 1947, they had all derived benefit from the club s activities during the year, said Mr P. L. Lupp. secretary of the Otago Sports Car Club, at its first annual meeting last nl f?ht. Among the many events sponsored by the club had been several field days, grass track racing, hill climbs, gymkhanas, a night trial, and social functions. Membership had grown steadily to 82, ana he hoped that the figure would be increased in the coming year. The meeting approved several amendments to the club constitution, mainly in connection with the General Committee, which was increased by the appointment of two new officers, a president and vicepresident It was also decided to . double the membership of the Ladies’ Social Committee to 10. Handicap Events

A member said that when two drivers entered for one event with the same car there was a possibility that the one car would be placed twice, or perhaps even three times. In his opinion, this did not encourage other competitors to enter for a race if there was . one outstanding vehicle already competing with two drivers. _ On the motion of Mr C. James, it was decided to take no direct action in the matter, but to hold handicap events this season. This would attract many owners of older cars and youthful drivers and ensure bigger fields with greater interest to the public. Office-bearers Elected Office-bearers elected were:—President. Mr R. Heatherley; vice-president. Mr C. James; club captain, Mr P. L. Lupp; viceclub captain, Mr H. Hedges; secretary, Mr N. Osborne; treasurer, Mr J. Small; committee— Mr? S. Lupp. Messrs A. A. Smith, E.
