TRAGIC DEATH
CORONER’S COMMENT P.A. AUCKLAND, Aug. 11. “This is the tragic death of a girl who found herself in a certain condition after association with a 32-year-old married man,” said the coroner, Mr A. Addison, at the inquest to-day into the death of a girl aged 19. “The evidence is not very creditable to the man who accepted her parents’ hospitality and yet was dissuaded from telling her folk because of her threat to leave home. "Whoever was responsible for this operation has on his conscience the crime of murder." the coroner said, "and it is a pity that through a mistaken idea of loyalty, this young girl refrained from giving the information which would have brought this person to book."
Evidence was given that the deceased became friendly with a married man with one child who represented himself to her people as a single man. The deceased was admitted to hospital on July 6 and was then very ill. A finding that death was due to septic abortion was returned.
