“THE ONLY SOLUTION”
ACCESSION OF HYDERABAD TO INDIA NO COMPROMISE POSSIBLE N.Z.P.A.—Reuter—Copyright NEW DELHI. Aug. 10. The Deputy Premier of India, Sardar Patel, told Parliament in a White Paper that the only solution to the Hyderabad problem was accession to India and responsible Government. There could be no compromise, be'cause compromise would mean suicide “India cannot afford to be helpless> spectators of the orgies of misrule in Hyderabad,” says the White Paper “The Government of India would unquestionably be involved if the situation there further deteriorated. Any arrangement except the accession of the State to India must be a brittle affair which will crack at the first stress."
British Rule Effective
The British Government, by imposing its authority in Hyderabad more repeatedly and effectively than in other States, and by negativing all claims of Hyderabad to preferential treatment, had done everything possible to disabuse the Nizam’s mind of his perverse and erroneous notions that his status under British paramountcy was better than under other rulers. Mr Patel told Parliament.
Armed raiders from Hyderabad had killed 73 persons in 197 recent attacks on Indian territory, said the White Paper, which added that Hyderabad’s history was one of “unprincipled opportunism. abortive quest for power, and inglorious uninterrupted dependence.” The Nizam’s inspiration had converted the Razakars into a “shock brigade for creating conditions in which the much-coveted theocratic State may come into existence.” India’s Anxiety
Mr Patel, tabling the White Paper, said an independent Hyderabad was a “standing threat to the progress and prosperity, indeed the very existence, of the Indian union.” He added that the interal autonomy of the State after its accession would be preserved, except in essential matters of defence, external affairs, and communications.
Hyderabad’s internal situation was rapidly deteriorating. The depredations of the Razakars were taxing India’s patience and causing the Government a great deal of anxiety. Mallikar Junappa, the third and last Hindu Minister in the Hyderabad Cabinet, has resigned with seven other Hindu Assembly members, says the Associated Press correspondent in Madras. Two other Hindu Ministers. Ramachar and Joshi, resigned earlier.
