EXAMINATION CHANGE
ABOLITION OF •‘TERMS”
The winter term at the University of Otago will end next Thursday and students are at present in the throes of examinations. These tests have assumed a wider significance than in past years because the formal “ terms ” examination will be abolished in many subjects this year. All exempted students will be admitted to the degree examinations without first sitting “ terms ” and the admission of internal students to the degree examinations will depend upon the results of the internal tests set in their various faculties. . , . , The “ terms ” examination, which was usually held about a month before the degree examinations started, will not be held in the arts faculty and there will be practical tests only in the science faculty. In the faculties of law and commerce, however, “ terms _ examinations will bp held in most .-übjects. The new system is yet another result of the development of internal university examinations.
The amount provided for, taxation by the Tip Top Ice Cream Company (Auckland), Ltd., at £22,000 was more than three times the amount distributed to shareholders, said Mr J. M. Eiliffe. deputy chairman of directors, at the annual meeting.
