British Machine One of the front lot in the Kopu Handicap at the Thames meeting is British Machine, who is trained by E." N. Kennerley. A four-year-old by Auto Machine from Haerangapai, he finsihed third to Sir Vivian and Grand Scott in the Great Northern Derby last season. Improvement Expected The Quite Sure gelding Impartial, whS will have his next race in the Thames Cup on Saturday, won at his first start last season out in 15 subsequent starts his record was five placings. He Is expected to show improvement in the season that has just started.
Promising Form
Goldsmith showed promising form last season to win twice and be placed four times in nine starts. Owned by the estate of the late F. J. Smith, he is a five-year-old by Robert Derby from Lowlawn. By Gold Bar Golden Sheaf, who is now in A. Motz’s stable, was started no fewer than 26 times last season, and his record was two wins and eight minor placings. A six-year-old by Gold Bar, Golden Sheaf was got from Copper Maid, and improvement can be expected from him during the season. Fully Booked Dillon Hall’s stock have won 257 races and filled 563 placings for £95,922 in stakes. He has been fully booked for the 1948 stud season. Trotters’ Records Since 1940 five trotters have gone lmln 58sec or better for a mile. They are Spencer Scott (lmin 571 sec), Victory Song (lmin 57 3-ssec), Volo Song (lmin 573 sec), Titan Hanover (lmin 58sec), and Rodney (lmin 58sec). Titan Hanover went 2min as a two-year-old.
