High Morale Is Logical Favourite For Beaufort Steeplechase
SPORTING
A field of 16 is due to go to the post for the Beaufort Steeples at Riccarton on Saturday, but from the point of view of class it cannot be regarded as a strong one.
Eleanor Star, the top-weight, tailed off a long way from home in the Grand National Steeples and practically walked over the line. He bled during the running.
High Morale was within a length and a-half of Brookby Song as they ran into the sod wall at the nine-furlong post in the Grand National Steeples and he looked like a sure placegetter, but lost his rider at the jump.
Roman Son fell at the last fence in the Homeby Steeples when well beaten. Whiphand won the Members’ Steeples at the Poverty Bay meeting in May and followed this up with a win in the Grandstand Steeples at Wanganui.
None of those about the middle of the handicap have claims to favouritism, but First Out would enter into consideration if the track became easier.
Troytown, Debater, and Hughsotis, the place-getters -in the Enfield Steeples, will not lack support and the favourites may be High Morale. Troytown and First Out.
