DIVIDED HONOURS AUSTRALIAN BASKTBALL TEAM P.A. TIMARU, Aug. 11. The Australian representative basketball team played its first matches in New Zealand in Timaru to-day against a combined team of South Canterbury, Temuka and Ashburton players, winning the seven-a-side game by 52 goals to 8, and losing the nine-a-side game 29—21. The visitors were more at home in the seven-a-side match and played a fast and free game with a less rigid interpretation of the aing and blocking rules than the players were used to. In the nine-a-side game, the combined team played with more confidence under the rules they knew well, and beat the Australians with brilliant short passes and lightning movements across the court, making it difficult fpr their opponents to intercept.
