Mrs W. D. Palmer, of Invercargill, is a guest at Wain’s Hotel. Miss Barbara Bayley, of Marton, is the guest of Dr H. D. Skinner and Mrs Skinner, of Tweed street, Roslyn. Mrs Sutherland, of the Clarendon Hotel, Christchurch, is staying at Wain’s Hotel for the races. Mrs A. Chisholm, of Otautau, who is in Dunedin for race week, is a guest at Wain’s Hotel. Mr and Mrs J. S. Satterthwaite, of Timaru, who are visiting Dunedin for the races, are guests at the City Hotel. Mrs A. G. Valentine, of Kew, who is spending a holiday in Christchurch, will return home on Friday. Miss Joy Rowley is visiting Invercargill, where she is the guest of her mother, Mrs F. C. Rowley, of Thames street. Dr R. R. Nimmo will speak on ’’America” at the meeting of the Travel Club to-morrow. The hostesses will be Mesdames W. H. Tucker and R. W. Hardie. Mrs R. H. Henderson and her sister, Miss Lorna Mcßae, left on Saturday to spend a holiday in Auckland and later in Christchurch. Mrs Leicester Webb, of Wellington, will be the guest of Mrs C. Mackie Begg. of Claremont street, Dunottar, for the women’s rally. Dr C. B. B. Downman and Mrs Downman, of London street, have returned from a trip to the glaciers. Mrs Kenneth Mason, and her two daughters, of Wellington, are the guests of her mother, Mrs C. S. Reid, of Alison crescent, Roslyn. Mr and Mrs J. W. Hall, of South Head. Helensville, who have been the guests of Mrs E. M. Holmes, of Victoria road, wiU leave for the north to-morrow. Dr H. D. Skinner and Mrs Skinner gave a 5 o’clock party on Saturday in honour of their son Richard and Miss Barbara Bayley, who announced their engagement during the afternoon. Mr and Mrs L. B. Borrow, of Gladstone road. Mosgiel,- entertained on Saturday evening for their daughter and son-in-law, Flight Lieutenant John Claydon and Mrs Claydon. Flight Lieutenant Claydon has recently returned from Japan. The Tomahawk Women’s Institute organised a social afternoon recently in the Glencairn Hall, when the sum of £l6 was raised for the United Nations’ Appeal. Vocal and instrumental items were given by Mesdames W. Fox, „I. Ballantyne, E. King and T. Dickson, Misses M. Olsen and D. Dickson. The competition winners were Mesdames Short, Allen, Harbrow and Herbert. Afternoon tea was served by the institute members.
