Fur Coats Worn At Wingatui Races
Although the women patrons of the Dunedin Jockey Club’s meeting on Saturday were fashionably attired, fur coats were the order of the day, and consequently, few appeared in the "new look garments. There were, however, all the latest touches which mark the new season’s wear. Brass studs on coats, frocks, hats, handbags, and shoes were to be seen everywhere, while sheer silk stockings in unusual colours, ankle-strap shoes —somehow reminiscent of the gay 'nine —somehow reminiscent of the gay ’nineties—and cosy astrachan-topped boots were popular. Hats were trimmed with veiling or feathers, and many suits and coats were heavily braided. Coke fires in large containers at numerous points in the grounds were appreciated by the women patrons, for, although the sun shone brilliantly for most of the day, there was a decided edge to the wind, and a sprinkling of snow on the Maungatuas. _ Included among those present were Lady Sidey, Mesdames C.
