Meeting Of Union
The last of the daily meetings held by the members of the Dunedin branch of the Tramways’ Union to discuss developments in the transport strike was held in the Security Hall, South Dunedin. on Saturday morning. After hearing a report from the national secretary of the union, Mr P. A. Hansen, the men marched Tiack to the tramsheds to resume work. The first bus was on the road soon after 12.15 p.m. and the full normal tram service was resumed by 1.30 p.m. Mr Hansen expressed pride at having been able to come to Dunedin to assist in negotiations for a settlement of the strike. He congratulated the branch on its solidarity and the executive on the able manner in which it had handled the dispute. A vote of appreciation to the Minister of Labour. Mr McLagan, was carried by acclamation. , . , Representatives of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, the Freezing Workers’ Union, the Transport Workers’ Federation and the Waterside Workers’ Union were present at the meeting. Tributes were paid by the chairman, Mr W. B. Richards, to the Otago Trades Council and the Transport Workers’ Federation for their support during the strike. Votes of thanks to the executive and the Strike Committee were passed.
