SHOW WEEK

MANY ACTIVITIES VARIETY OF ENTERTAINMENT ANNUAL GATHERINGS A variety of entertainment for the public will be offered in and around Dunedin this week—beginning with the numerous King’s Birthday activities to-day. To the usual round of events associated with Winter Show Week in the city there are some additions this year, the principal of which is the opera “ Carmen.” The usual programme of annual meetings will be increased by a number of gatherings for which the city has been chosen as the venue in tribute to the centenary of the province. Some of this week’s events are:— To-day.—Winter Show in Brydone Hall, with bird and poultry show in adjacent building; races at Wingatui; Rugby trial match at Carisbrook, with Alhambra-Waikouaiti game as curtainraiser; junior Association.football National Cup trial at the Caledonian Ground, with Northern-Caversham game as curtain-raiser; motor cycle racing at Tahuna Park; St. John Ambulance championships at Girls’ High School (presentation of trophies in Hillside Hall in evening); Mid-Otago Federation of Women’s Institutes drama and choir festival in Little Theatre. King street in evening; convention of beekeepers. To-morrow. —Winter Show, and bird and poultry show; opera “ Carmen ” in His Majesty’s Theatre; Otago University Arts Faculty ball in Concert Chamber; annual provincial conference of Federated Farmers. Wednesday.—Winter Show and bird and poultry show; Rugby match at Littlebourne between Otago Boys’ High School and King’s High School; Federated Farmers’ conference; annual provincial conference of Women's Division of Federated Farmers; New Zealand Fruit and Produce Merchants’ conference: Women’s Institutes’ drama and choir festival; women’s centennial rally, under auspices of National Council of Women, in Concert Chamber in evening. Thursday.—Opera “ Carmen annual meeting New Zealand Friesian Association; Federated Farmers’ conference; Fruit and Produce Merchants’ conference; Dunedin Free Kindergarten Association’s annual ball in Concert Chamber.

Friday.—Grand centennial ball in Main Town Hall: Friesian Association field day at North's “ Rosevale ” Stud, Omimi; Fruit and Produce Merchants’ conference.

Saturday.—Races at Wingatui; opera “ Carmen ” concludes; usual week-end sports; new cabaret opens.
