Mr G. E. Bichan has been appointed to succeed the late Mr J. A. Roberts as manager of the Dunedin branch of Murray, Roberts and Co., Ltd. The Minister of Railways, Mr Semple, has announced the appointment of Mr K. A. Wallace to the position of commercial manager, New Zealand Railways, succeeding Mr H. A. Steere, who recently retired on superannuation after 40 years’ service. The official appointment of Mr J. H. Edmond, of Dunedin, as Vice-consul for Norway in Dunedin and Port Chalmers is notified in the Gazette. Mr Edmond has been Acting Consul for the past seven years, no official appointments being made during the war. Mr Edmond assumed the office in 1941, on the death of his father, Mr W F. Edmond, who was Consul for Norway at Dunedin for more than 25 years. The Chancellor of the University of New Zealand, Sir David Smith, and the Vice-chancellor, Professor I. A. Gordon, left Wellington yesterday for Auckland, whence they will fly, via Sydney and Singapore, to London. They will spendabout four months in Britain, part of the time being spent in visiting British universities and part in a series of University conferences. At the end of the conferences, the and Vice-chan-cellor will go to the United States at the invitation of the Carnegie Corporation of New York, and will spend about two months in American universities.
