Chile to Purchase H.M.S. Ajax
A cable message from London states that negotiations are being carried on for the sale to Chile of the 7000-ton cruiser H.M.S. Ajax, veteran of the Battle of the River Plate. The naval correspondent of The Times comments that if the sale goes through the British people may demand certain conditions. They would recall the brusque Chilean proclamation of the annexation of British territory in the Antarctic, Avhich might affect the British people’s willingness to assist the building up of Chile’s naval strength.
