PATIENT FROM AUSTRALIA

OPERATION IN DUNEDIN Mr G. W. Greig, of Gwalia, West Australia, will arrive in Dunedin to-morrow for a surgical operation on his osteo-arthritic hip—an operation which involves covering the nip-bone with a plastic cap. Mr Greig's complaint has stiffened his joints to such an extent that he can walk only with the aid of a stick. When he arrived at Auckland by air from Australia yesterday, he said that he was told in Perth that the operation could not be done there. Mr Greig’s operation will be performed by a Dunedin orthopaedic surgeon. The present technique was originated in the United States of America in 1939. It is by no means an uncommon operation in Dunedin, where during the past two or three years 30 such operations have been performed by the surgeon who will operate on Mr Greig. It is described as a very worth-while operation, with satisfactory results.
