BOROUGH AFFAIRS

Committee Recommendations The following committee recommendations will come before the Oamaru Borough Council to-night for approval:The Joint Committee recommends that consideration of the loan proposals for certain plant and machinery be deferred for three months, the Loans Board to be asked if it is possible to amend the application by reducing the amount if thought desirable. The committee agreed to the principle of future payments to renewal funds being on a percentage basis, and recommended that £llsO above the estimated revenue be placed on the estimates. The Finance Committee recommends that the acknowledgments from the Departments of Mines and Justice about a site for a technical school, as requested by the War Memorial Committee, be received. The Town Hall Committee recommends that the offer from the Oamaru Drama Club and Little Theatre Society to devote half the proceeds of their next productions towards the cost of improving the stage amenities at the Opera House be referred to the chairman. The Works Committee recommends that the Waitaki Hospital Board’s request that the council seal the drive from the front of the hospital to the Nurses’ Home, be granted, the board to bear the cost of the work; that when opportunity arises a grader or other machinery suitable for the borough’s requirements be purchased; and that the committee concerned be authorised to empower the head of its department to inspect and report for consideration by the council. The Reserves Committee recommends that the Automobile Association be advised that the council could not undertake the work of piping the water race at the Gardens, the estimated cost for 9-inch pipes being £210; that the work to prevent scouring by storm water from the railway culvert at an estimated cost of £7O be proceeded with, provided the association paid half the cost; and that the Beautifying Society be granted permission to replace memorial oaks at Reserve C, and to plant birches on the southern boundary of the reserve.
