COMING ATTRACTIONS

REGENT THEATRE . 3 Playing his first big part in British pictures, Ronald Howard, son of a famous father, will be seen in " While the Sun Shines,” which will commence its season at the Regent Theatre to-morrow. Adapted from Terence Rattlgan’s record-breaking stage comedy of the same name, the story is of London—that incredible city where the unexpected is always liable to happen to anyone. Co-starred with Ronald Howard is Barbara White, tend also included in the cast are Bonar Colleano, Ronald Squire, Michael Allan, Brenda Bruce and Cyril Maude. The film was directed by Anthony Asquith, who was responsible for " Pygmalion.” OCTAGON THEATRE " Carnegie Hall,” which will commence at the Octagon Theatre to-morrow, is a passing parade of many of the great musical artists who have contributed to the history of music in the United States of America. It gives intimate impressions of such people as Stowkovsky, Rodinsky, Bruno Walter, Walter Damrosch and Reiner, while the virtuosi are represented by close-ups by Jascha Heiftez, Artur Rubinstein (conductors), Gregor Piatigorsky (cellist), Jan Peerce (tenor), Ezio Pinza (basso), Rise Stevens (mezzo), and Lily Pons (soprano). ST. JAMES THEATRE Those who appreciate the good drama which Vicki Baum provides will want to see “ Return at Dawn,” which will commence at the St. James Theatre to-mor-row. Danielle Darrieu appears with Henry Decoin. “ Return at Dawn ” is the story of a young wife in a great city between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. the next day. CENTURY THEATRE The story of a twentieth century idealist. Johnny Mac Queen, leader of an illegal organisation who sacrifices everything for his beliefs, " Odd Man Out,’ starring James Mason, will commence its season to-morrow at the Century Theatre. Unusual, too, is the love aspect—that of a girl devoted to a man and his cause, though she reveals no indication of her great love. Johnny considers nothing but his political objectives, apparently ignoring the girl who would give her life to help him, but her love ultimately proves the most compelling factor in his destiny and provides the dramatic climax of the story. A new screen discovery, Kathleen Ryan, plays opposite James Mason and also in the cast is Robert Newton. EMPIRE THEATRE The screen's first “ lady ” and " gentleman ” of crime are reunited once again in “ Song of the Thin Man,” the most mirth-packed murder mystery yet shown of the popular comedy-detective series. It will open its season at the Empire Theatre to-morrow. -William Powell and Myma Loy have taken the Nick and Cora Charles roles to the point where it is hard to distinguish between the actors and their roles. This is the cleverest and most amusing picture in this series, and there is never a dull moment when Nick and Nora put their heads together to determine who murdered Tommy Drake, a young band leader on the gambling ship. STRAND THEATRE An unusual study of the psychology of murder, its causes and effects, is thrillingly told in Republic's “ Tire Madonna’s Secret,” which will open its season at the Strand Theatre to-morrow. Francis Lederer heads the cast which includes Ann Rutherford and .Gail Patrick. Francis Lederer has the role of a romantic portrait painter of international fame. On three occasions his models are mysteriously poisoned and thrown into the river, and suspicion points to him. The supporting feature is “ The Avenging Rider, ' a Western action film from R.K.O. Studios, starring Tim Holt.
