TRAFFIC CASES

POLICE COURT SITTING A lengthy list of traffic cases was heard before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M., in the City Police Court yesterday. Charged with obtaining £lO by false pretences at Thornbury, near Invercargill, on May 24, Edward Basil Thomas Finn, aged 30, a labourer, of no fixed address, was remanded to appear at Invercargill on May 31. Chief Detective Hall said that a number of charges of a similar type would be preferred against the accused. Motoring offences Charged with dangerous driving, Douglas Logan was fined £3 10s and costs, and Alexander Claude Dempsey was fined £3 and costs. George Richard Bell, for failing to give way to another vehicle, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months. On similar charges. Fergus Vivian McQueen and William Wong were each fined £2 and costs. McQueen was also fined 10s for driving without a licence, and Bell was fined 10s and costs for not having a driver’s licence. Charged with driving without due care, Richard Ernest Mansfield was fined £2 and costs. Herbert Joseph Chapman, Brendon Francis Finlayson, Wilford James Frisby and William James Patterson McCullough were each fined 10s and costs for not having warrants of fitness. Birnie Ronald Trainor was convicted and Ronald Thomas Garlick was ordered to pay costs (10s) for using a motor vehicle before receipt of an endorsed certificate. For failing to notify the disposal of a motor vehicle, Thomas Joseph Bates Taylor was fined 20s and costs, and on a similar charge Birnie Ronald Trainor was fined £2 and costs. Parking Breaches ■ For parking in prohibited areas, fines were imposed as follows: —Richard Lindsay Cotton (£2 and costs), Joseph John Hellyer. Matthew James Leyden, Alexander James Lister (20s and costs), Huston Clarke, lan Dickson, Robert Neville Everest, John Eric Green, Gordon Alexander Halliday, Hector Humphrey Roulston (10s and costs). James Annan Ramsay was convicted without penalty. For parking over the time limit, the following were fined 10s and costs:— Maurice Valo’emar Bernstein, Noel Henry Raymond Davies, Jack Kuzmich, George Mackay, James McKechie, Ronald James Nicholson (on two charges—los on the first and 10s with costs on the second), Godfrey Frederick Paape and William James Taylor. Fines of 10s were imposed on William Duncan Campbell and George Chance. For parking too close to a corner, Albert Sidney Cookson and Blennard Sarnson were each fined 10s and costs. Leslie Will was fined 15s and costs for parking on a fire plug. For parking on a bus stop, Sydney William Jarvis was fined 15s and costs. Unlighted Bicycle Russell Robert Turner was fined 10s and costs (10s) for riding an unlighted bicycle.
