OBITUARY
MR F. W. McGILL P.A. ' INVERCARGILL, May 24. A well-known trotting owner and breeder, Mr F. W. McGill, died in Invercargill at the age of 78. Born in Dunedin, Mr McGill came to Invercargill at an eany age, and entered the grocery business, in which he remained for more than 50 years. His chief interest apart from his business lay in the sport of trotting. His colours first became prominent through the deeds of the Happy Voyage mare Rocks Ahead, ■tfftio took the mile and a-quarter record of 2min 39sec, and established a mile Southland record of 2min 5 3-ssec on the Winton course. Rocks Ahead also met with outstanding success at the stud, producing Navigate, one of the best pacers in the Dominion to-day, Rendezvous, and Barrier Reef, all winners in the ownership of Mr McGill.
