ELECTION OF OFFICERS PA WELLINGTON, May 24. Officers elected by the Communist Party of New Zealand at the triennial conference, which ended to-day, were: —Chairman of National Committee, Mr A. Drennan Auckland; members of National Committee Messrs V. G. Wilcox, H. M. Smith, S. Scott, N. Williams, R. Stanley, Mrs Rita Smith (Auckland), Mr D. Mcßae (Ahura), Mrs C. Birchfield, Messrs A. J. Birchfield, A. B. Skilton, A. Galbraith (Wellington), J. Locke (Canterbury), Dr H. Silverstone (Dunedin). The conference opposed any move to abandon Imperial preference or devalue the New Zealand pound. It announced an immediate programme calling for wage increases, the freezing of prices pending reorganisation of the Price Tribunal, and the raising of the income tax exemption level. A statement issued by the party also called for nationalisation of key industries under democratic workercontrol.
