OBITUARY
MR F. J. CAMPBELL
Mr Francis Joseph Campbell, who died suddenly at his home in Anderson’s Bay on Friday in his seventyseventh year, was a man of wide interests, and was particularly' prominent in sporting circles in Dunedin. He was a member of the Otago Boxing Association for many years, and held the office of president over a long period. He acted as M.C. at all important boxing tournaments in Dunedin, and during his association with the sport he was also president of the New Zealand Boxing Association. Mr Campbell was a foundation member of the Otago Wrestling Association. was president for a period, and was a life member of both the Wrestling and Boxing Associations. He was a very keen bowler, and was one of the founders of the Anderson’s Bay Bowling Club.. He was its first secretary and the second president, and remained an active member for 30 years. Only a few weeks ago he was present at the closing function of the club for the season. In all matters affecting the welfare of the district* in which he lived Mr Campbell took a lively interest. He was a loyal worker on bebalf of the Anderson’s Bay Presbyterian Church, of v which he was a member for 34 years, chairman of the Anderson’s Bay School Committee for a long period, and president of the Anderson’s Bay Lawn Tennis Club. With Mr J. Dickison, he was responsible for inaugurating a movement for the purchase of land at Anderson’s Bay which is now known as Cameron Park. He was a justice of the peace, and was also a member of the Otago Early Settlers’ Association. He is survived by his wife and five married daughters— Mesdames E. R. Service (Ashburton), W. Begg (South Africa), W. St. O. Horman (Christchurch), W. Lang (Dunedin), and J. F. Fuller (Wellington).
