Mr Churchill Pleads For European Unity At Congress Session

New Zealand Press Association—Copyright Rec. 9.10 p.m. THE HAGUE, May 11. , Mr Churchill was called to the rescue to secure unanimity from the Congress of Europe’s fifth plenary session in passing the economic resolution which stated “that no attempt to rebuild Europe’s economy upon a basis of rigidly divided national sovereignty can prove successful.” The resolution called for economic union in Europe through removing trade barriers, restoring budgetary equilibrium, establishing multilateral trade treaties, and co-ordinating agricultural, industrial and labour programmes. ■ « Mr Churchill made an impassioned plea for unity. “We have many foes throughout the world,” he said. “ There are forces at work which would wish to sabotage this conference. Mr Churchill said that he had been told that there was insufficient food in the world. “ Don’t you believe it. There is plenty if peoples can cultivate their soil in peace and tranquillity,” he said.
