EXCITING MATCH
LAST MINUTE ATTACK The Taieri tradition for fighting finished was well maintained by the plains team’ll forwards against Dunedin at Mosgiel, bull desperate defence which turned ipto a last-minute attack saved the day for tho city team, which won by 10 points to 8. The game was played at a cracking paco from start to finish with the extra skill of the Dunedin backs turning the scale against Taieri, who were ill-served by their rearguard. The best back on the ground was, without a doubt, the Dunedin first fiveeighth, W. Lawrence. He handled splendidly, tackled well and varied his play cleverly, scoring seven of his team’s points with goal kicks. The remainder of the Dunedin back division was always enterprising and made every effort to open up the game. Of the Taieri backs J. McLeod, also in the first five-eighth, berth, was the mainstay, although ha showed a tendency to hold on too long. The forwards were well matched with Taieri, as always, excellent in the loose and Dunedin taking the honours in tho tight work. P. Johnstone played a sterling game for Taieri, receiving good support from A. Houston. J. Little, Dunedin front-row man, was up with the play from whistle to whistle, while K. Greene and F. MacPherson also played well. There was some evidence of lack
of fitness, but neither pack contained shiners. .... ~ For Dunedin, Lawrence kicked a fino field goal and an equally good penalty goal, and Macartney scored. Tregonnmg scored for Taieri and Couper converted the try and kicked a goal from a penalty. The referee was Mr J. Halligan.
