KILTIE SUCCEEDS IN STEEPLES

Special to Daily Times INVERCARGILL, Apl. 18. The 1947-48 racing season in Southland ended on a record note with the second day of the Southland Racing Club’s autumn meeting yesterday. The weather was dull and overcast but the track was in excellent order. Lovemorn’s time of lmin 25 2-ssec in winning the open sprint race over seven furlongs being only 2-ssec outside the Southland record for the distance. For the two days the totalisator turnover showed an increase of £19,900. Great Coon returned to the winning list by an end-to-end victory in the Waiau Handicap. The favourite, Grill, was the unlucky runner as he was last most of the way and finished with a phenomenal run to get up for second.
