Wool Marketing After J.O.

An Empire-wide scheme., in which producers and Governments trill jointly continue the selling of woo', in an orderly manner when the presc. At need for the Joint Organisation (which now does that work) has passed, is envisaged by most New Zealand woolgrowers. This was made clear in Wellington this week when members of the Electoral Committee of the meat and wool industry discussed the subject with men.ibers of the Wool Board Further consideration was deferred until the annual meeting of the electoral college in August on the understanding that the Wool Board would, in the meantime, explore further the possibilities of such a scheme. Australian woolgro.wers are also p anning the marketing of wool themselves when the J.O. operations cease. Federated Fanners of New. Zealand received tms week details of the decisions made by the Australian Wool and Meat Producers Federation. Fin<il and unanimous approval has been j;iven a growers’ marketing plan in Australia, and negotiations have been begun with the Commonwealtn Government for official acceptance of the plan. The growers have recommended, starting with tlje 1948-49 season, a contributorv chargto on wool up to 3 per cent., together with the amount required for current expenditure, but not to exceed 5 per 'Cent. Legislation will be sought for the. 1949-50 season. It is proposed to pay the levies into a capital account to be. used as a fund to support a " Growers’ Post J.O. Plan ” when the present J.O. ceases operations. If the new plan falls to materialise the money will be returned to the growers. Wool men in Australia are maintaining close contact with growers in New Zealand and South Africa. They are willing to co-operate with growers in these countries, on any similar marketing plan.
