DRASTIC EFFECT
SHORTAGE OF IMPORT LICENCES P.A. WELLINGTON, Apl. 16. A statement issued to the press says that at an emergency meeting of the United Kingdom Manufactures and the New Zealand Representatives’ Association held to-day, grave concern was expressed at the shortage of 1948 import licences for goods from the United Kingdom, which is having a drastic and in many cases a chaotic effect on industry.' The present restrictions are hindering the clamant appeal by the United Kingdom for increased exports. Arrangements are being made for an early approach to the Minister of Customs to press for immediate and considerable increases in the 1948 licences to relieve what has become a desperate situation.
