LATE RATES MAINTAINED HIGH PRICES FOR FINE WOOLS The official report of the first day’s selling at the final Dunedin sale of the season, issued by the Dunedin Stock Agents and Woolbrokers’ Association in conjunction with the New Zealand Woolbuyers’ Association and the New Zealand Wool Disposal Commission, states that there was a keen representation of buyers, both from local mills and overseas. Prices on the average, compared with recent sales, were fully firm and fine wools showed a firming tendency, reaching the highest levels of the season. All fine wools were keenly competed for, the Continent dominating the market and taking the bulk of the fleece and the skirtings. Dominion mills, however, bid keenly and secured the top-priced merino and fine halfbred and were also in the market for crossbred skirtings. Bradford purchased mainly crossbreds. There was a larger offering of lambs’ wool than usual, principally from North and South Otago, and these wools, on the whole, opened up exceptionally well and secured good prices. A number of parcels of crutchings were shown from earlyshorn sheep and values for these were satisfactory. Southdown wool realised record prices. Passings to the Wool Disposal Commission were very few. The stock wool offered by the Wool Disposal Commission was keenly sought after; the Continent taking the major portion at satisfactory rates. The top price of the sale was ozja for a line of super merino and for fine halfbreds 593 d. The official range of prices is:— d
