OBITUARY
Mr Lachlan Macrae Tire death occurred suddenly at Moeraki on Thursday of a well known and highly respected resident of Oamaru, Mr Lachlan Macrae, in his sixty-fourth year. Mr Macrae was born at Dingwall, Rosshire, Scotland, in 1884, and before coming to New Zealand in 1907 served his apprenticeship to the building trade. On his arrival in New Zealand lie entered the building trade, at which he worked for a number of years in various parts of the Dominion. He came to Oamaru 29 years ago and commenced employment as a stonemason, at which trade he worked until the time of his death. Mr Macrae's best known works in the North Otago district are the church and war memorial at Maheno. but he has many other buildings in and around Oamaru to his credit, including the Masonic Hall in Wansbcck street. Mr Macrae was a member of the Borough Council for three terms, and was also a past-president of the North Otago Bowling Centre and the Meadowbank Bowling Club. He was a member of the Oamaru Trotting Club, the Waitaki Acclimatisation Society, the Masonic Lodge, the North Otago Highland Pipe Band, and Loyal Oamaru Lodge. He is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs J. Bruce (Totara). and three sons, Allistair, John, and Arthur (all of Oamaru). Mrs E. Milligan By the death of Mrs Ethel Milligan suddenly a't her risidcnce on March 29, Oamaru has lost one of its oldest residents. She will always be remembered for her kindly disposition and willing cooperation in anything that made for the welfare of the town. Mrs Milligan was the eldest daughter of the late Eyre and Charlotte Evans, her father coming from the Old Country to New Zealand with his cousin, Francis Ogilvie Grant, the tenth Earl of Seafield. They settled in Oamaru. Books written by her mother will be remembered by the earlier residents of the town. Mrs Milligan is survived by her sister, Mrs Eva James (Dunedin), and three brothers —Mr Percy Evans (England), Mr S. Corry Evans (England), and the Rev. Eric Evans (Melbourne).
