CONTROLS ON EXPORTS

AIRCRAFT FROM AMERICA CLASSIFIED AS WAR MATERIAL N.Z.P. A.—Copyright WASHINGTON. Mar. 26. President Truman to-day imposed tight controls on the export of aircraft and aircraft parts, classing them with other war material. The White House issued a Presidential proclamation revising as from April 15 the list of articles which cannot be shipped from the United States except under a special licence. It designates as munitions such items as small arms, machine guns, fire control equipment, rangefinders, as well as aircraft. Congressmen have been clamouring for tightened export controls since the disclosure this week that some aeroplane engines sold by the United States Government as war surplus were eventually sent to Russia by private buyers. President Truman’s action means that nobody may lawfully export aircraft or .parts without specific Government permission.
