A motion was carried by the delegates at the annual conference of the Federated Catholic Clubs and Societies of New Zealand on Saturday expressing deep regret in the prolonged illness of Bishop Whyte, of Dunedin, and at his inability to be present at the conference. Mr W. L. Bell, who has succeeded Mr C. Langbein as district engineer of the Public Works Department at Dunedin, has been appointed a commissioner of the Taieri River Trust. , Mr J. Meltzer, secretary of the New Zealand Police Association, who has been visiting Dunedin in the course of a tour of. police districts of the South Island, will leave the city for the south to-mor-row. Miss E. W. Lancaster, of Wellington, is the guest of Mrs T. Somerville, Lauriston, Anderson's Bay.
