POLLUTED WATERS

Sir,—l came as a visitor to your fair city to enjoy the events of Carnival Week, which events I thought outstanding. I was also wishful to follow tracks through the beautiful bush so close to the town, so my friends took me for a walk along the tracks about the Ross Creek reservoir, and I was amazed to notice how polluted was the water of School Creek. It was such that the beauty of the surroundings could not be fully appreciated on account of the stench arising from whatever was discolouring the water. • Such a condition would not be tolerated in my home town, and it is a pity that the creek above-mentioned should be used as an open sewer—l am. etc., Ashburton.
