FILM FESTIVAL

The success of previous film festivals conducted under the, joint auspices of the Dunedin Film Society and the Kerridge-Odeon circuit has encouraged the presentation of a new group of contemporary films of high standard in the form of an all-British festival. It has also been decided that the festival will extend over a period of two weeks this time in order to allow a greater opportunity of seeing more of the selected films, and the season commenced yesterday at the St. James with the semi-documentary “San Demetrio—London,” the factual account of a war-time tanker’s experience.

Each film will be retained for two days, and the productions selected, in order of their presentation, will be “This Happy Breed.” Noel Coward’s chronicle of the British people over three, generations; “I See a Dark Stranger,” a war-time “ thriller “ Brief Encounter,” another Noel Coward story; “The Rake's Progress,” a comedy with a heavy overtone of drama; and “The Way Ahead,” one of the best war films.
